Hi,

I have two cluster with 3 bricks on Ubuntu 16.04 with GlusterFS 3.13 PPA.

What is the best way to upgrade 3.13.2 to to 4.0 version ?

As always, i found a lot of tutorial to install GlusterFS not to
maintain and upgrade a live system...

Thanks

Hi John,

But there is no info about 3.13 :
https://docs.gluster.org/en/latest/Upgrade-Guide/upgrade_to_4.1/

"Upgrade procedure to Gluster 4.1, from Gluster 4.0.x, 3.12.x, and 3.10.x

NOTE: Upgrade procedure remains the same as with 3.12 and 3.10
releases"

And there is no info about "PPA" Management.
Do i have to remove 3.13 PPA first, install over ...

Where installing on Ubuntu there is information in documentation :

https://docs.gluster.org/en/latest/Install-Guide/Install/#for-ubuntu

You're right.
I'm not the person to answer on the specifics of Ubuntu, so hopefully one
of our packagers will chime in.

I have opened the following bug against the documentation:

But there is no info about 3.13 :

This was because 3.13 was EOLd when 4.0 released, and hence this guide
for 4.1 does not capture the release number 3.13 in its initial note.

The procedure to upgrade from 3.13 to 4.1 is the same as for other
version, hence the same guide can be used to achieve the upgrade.

I believe the ask is also around instructions for actually obtaining the
new bits from the distros... what repos need to be changed (if any) and
whether old packages need to be removed.

Agree, I was looking at that as the latter part of the question, with
the former around 3.13 missing in reference.

I do not have enough Ubuntu fu to answer that one, so leaving that out
for now.

OK i'll try theses steps then :

1. Like in upgrade Guide, i will stop Gluster and Services (Step 1,1
from https://docs.gluster.org/en/latest/Upgrade-Guide/upgrade_to_4.1/)
2. Remove PPA 3.13 : sudo ppa-purge ppa:gluster/glusterfs-3.13 && sudo
apt-get update
3. Add PPA 4.1 : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gluster/glusterfs-4.1 &&
sudo apt-get update
4. Install Gluster 4.1 : sudo apt-get install glusterfs-server

add the detail to the document. Shyam has an issue tracking this
